Basket Pottery

I picked up this West-German pottery basket/bowl a while back at the fleamarket for 3 EUR. Its delicate reed and metal fastenings and the handle are in great shape (I often spot damaged or wobbly ones at markets around here) but the glaze is still a bit dust-stained despite various cleaning attempts.

Basket-shaped pottery seems to have been a strong trend in the 50s and early 60s. I like this example for its combination of kitschy cute shape plus bizarre modernist zig-zag motif.

If we didn’t need a designated lemon basket before, we’ve got one now! Happy Saturday.
