…went down 5 days ago and without any major hitches. In the leadup, we worked like fiends to finish painting the bedrooms (managed this), the kitchen (managed this) and living room (did not) in addition to sorting out the traditional moving palaver like actually packing all our stuff in boxes. Yes, even some stuff that I decided to throw away upon unpacking at the other end (goodbye, inexplicably saved old IKEA catalogue. And all your old catalogue friends.) As most of my brain is still preoccupied with unpacking, sorting, and organising the house, here’s a somewhat random list of first impressions from the last few days:
1) I love sleeping with the bedroom window tilted without the constant rumbling of trucks that sound like they’re actually taking a shortcut through the living room.
2) Why do we own multiple copies of several books and insist on moving with them time and again? His and Hers Generation X? Okay, that’s more than a little crazy.
3) A multi-storey house, even a small one, has lots of ceiling light fixtures to affix lights to. In our case, over 14. The number we owned before moving in? Four. Welcome to our home, affordable IKEA placeholders until I find something more special. For now, you’re preventing me from walking into my closet in the dark. That’s the ALÄNG. We also got two MINUT pendants for the master bedroom. They will be revealed in their new environment as soon as the number of boxes obscuring the view has significantly decreased. Happy Sunday!
